Alistair M Russell BSc FRICS, Director

Working with John Wright and his team at Treadwell has been an absolute pleasure. The company’s approach to refurbishing old and developing new properties is so refreshing. Their commitment to quality can be clearly seen at every stage from carefully considered designs to selecting highly skilled contractors and using the finest materials whether that’s roofing slates or door hinges. Treadwell’s developments really are of the very highest standard.

About Us

Treadwell Developments

Treadwell developments bought its first property in 1968 and have been involved in property development as far back as the early 80’s. Starting in commercial property we added residential to our portfolio in the mid 90’s.

We have developed over 30 sites in this time ranging from single houses to schemes with over 20 flats on.

Our ethos has always been to build to a quality we are proud of and would be happy to occupy ourselves. We build for the long term, not cutting corners for a short term profit and our attention to detail delivers a quality product first time, every time.

We work predominantly in Yorkshire, an area we love, alongside numerous highly professional agencies, contractors and individuals who always deliver the best service on each site. We believe in long term relationships with our partners and our buildings knowing that they will be our legacy for many years to come.

John Wright, Director

I have lived in Leeds most of my life, leaving to study Business Studies in Hull before moving to Nottingham and on to Glasgow where I had a management role for the retailer C&A.

Back in 1992 I came back to Leeds to work for Treadwell, where I have spent well over 23 years developing over 20 sites from single family homes to sites with numerous units on. Over this period I have worked with some very talented people, learning from them to gain valuable experience. I have taken this experience to bring some very successful developments to market, either to sell the properties on or retain for the long term rental market.

Treadwell developments always strives to offer a well built, sustainable home that is also very good value for money.

Hope House, LS

This former foundry built in 1914, but with roots some 200 years earlier is our latest development. A sympathetic total refurbishment of this historic listed building is planned to start soon. We will of course be retaining as many original features as possible, adding high spec fixtures and fittings to over 20 new flats on the upper floors. The crowning glory will be a contrasting contemporary new build section sitting on the roof, showing the regeneration of the building against the classic design of the existing structure and starting the next chapter in this buildings long history.

Queen Street, Morley

We redeveloped the upper floors of this beautiful building into 7 flats in 2013. In the centre of the bustling suburb of Morley, the site incorporates many of the original features and high ceilings – stone mullion windows, original balconies and fireplaces have all been brought back to life. This is a highly desirable development with near 100% occupancy since completion.

St Lawrence House, Pudsey

This Georgian building dating from the 1830’s had been most recently a Council run Children’s nursery. The beautiful old building has been restored and is complemented by a new build extension alongside replacing the dilapidated extension from the 1960’s.

With New Parking areas and fully landscaped gardens, the site is now one of Pudsey’s prime residential developments. 4 flats in the old house and 6 in the new build, this building was shortlisted for a Leeds City Council design award.

The Exchange, LS1

This mixed use building, is in the heart of Leeds has been owned by the company for 30 years. Treadwell developed the upper floors into 8 apartments in 1996 – at the time one of the first developments of its kind in the city centre.

Almost 20 years on, this still proves to be a very popular building, due to its central location and the characterful design of the accommodation, particularly compared to the many modern new builds that have been developed since this was completed. The full refurbishment of the ground floor retail/entertainment space has also taken place recently.
